The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has crippled a syndicate selling illegal walkie-talkies targeting Rukun Tetangga (RT) groups.

"We seized 12 sets of illegal two Way Radios for sale at RM300 per set. The syndicate also provide repair services and maintenance of walkie-talkies," he told reporters, here today.
The syndicate was also believed to have sold the walkie-talkies without SIRIM approval to about 1,500 buyers in Ipoh.
He said the two suspects, believed to be the wife and son of a RT chairman were brought to Bercham police station where their statements were recorded.
"The MCMC received many complaints from RT on the sale of illegal walkie-talkies in March last year.
"We conducted monitoring and investigation with the cooperation of SIRIM which brought us to this location," he added.
The illegal sale of walkie-talkie is an offence under Section 239 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
